WHY IS RICHPORT PROPERTIES THE BEST GREEN DEVELOPER?
Richport Properties has placed more land in conservation over the last 10 years than they have developed, creating conservation communities in Gwinnett, Braselton, Dekalb and Morgan Counties.
- Richport Properties is the ONLY developer to win the ARC’s Development of Excellence Award twice in ten years.
- Each Richport community has conservation features that are unique to that neighborhood: nature trails, wildlife areas, walkability, pedestrian trails to shopping areas and parks, and underground storm water management systems.
- Rick Porter, owner of Richport Properties, is currently on the Board of Directors at the Livable Communities Coalition. He served for 10 years on the board of the Atlanta Regional Commission. Rick was appointed by then Governor Roy Barnes to serve on his Green Space Commission, as well as played a key role in negotiating the first storm water general permit for the state of Georgia. In addition, Richport received the National KEEP AMERICA BEAUTIFUL AWARD for its Healthy House onsite recycling program.
With roots reaching back four generations in Dekalb County, Rick Porter’s ability to listen to the land began at a very young age working on his Grandfather’s farm near Rockbridge Road and Lawrenceville Highway in Gwinnett County. Rick’s construction knowledge and work ethic were gained working with his father as a brick mason. In addition, his Uncle John Frazier, a developer, served as his mentor while teaching him the process and business of community development.
Immediately upon graduating third in his class at Georgia Tech in Architecture, Rick launched his homebuilding and land development business. Continuing his education with the Georgia Solar Coalition, now known as Southface, Rick was green before we called it green. He built some of the first passive solar houses in Atlanta as well as applying other innovative building techniques such as super insulated exterior wall panels. His desire to work in harmony with the land continued when he formed is own grading company where he learned to apply conservation techniques while re-shaping the land.
IF YOU LISTEN, THE LAND WILL SPEAK. Home is where human habitat and natural habitat live in peace.
